[Consumer Times = Reporter Ahn Seong-ryeol] A "public-private global cooperation platform" that promotes the Republic of Korea's advanced drone policies and technological prowess to the world, while helping domestic drone companies expand into overseas markets, is now fully operational.

The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, announced that they invited 13 officials from four countries with high demand in the drone industry—namely Ghana, Indonesia, Mexico, and Mongolia—to run the '2026 Drone Capacity Development Academy' from June 29 to July 3.

This academy goes beyond a simple training course; it is an international cooperation model that simultaneously supports the export of public sector policies and opens up market pathways for domestic private enterprises.

At the Gimcheon Drone Qualification Center, participants will systematically learn about the drone qualification system, safety management policies, and infrastructure operational know-how accumulated by TS.

Furthermore, participants will be given the opportunity to witness live demonstrations and experience firsthand the core technologies and products of leading domestic drone companies to discuss potential purchases and technical cooperation.

The practice-oriented training program is also drawing significant attention. Participants will master essential field skills, such as:

  • Agricultural drone pest control technology

  • AI-based surveillance, search, and tracking missions

  • Platoon-level tactical operations

TS is also putting concerted effort into strengthening the practical export capabilities of domestic companies by organizing separate events, including the K-Drone Showcase, new product launches, and export consultation sessions.

In addition, participants will visit core infrastructure of the domestic aviation and drone industry, such as the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and the Goyang Drone Anchor Center, to witness South Korea's drone industry ecosystem firsthand. This training program, which began with the invitational education in Korea, is scheduled to be followed by on-site training abroad in the second half of this year.

Jeong Yong-sik, Chairman of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, stated, "The Drone Capacity Development Academy is an international cooperation platform that disseminates the excellent policies and systems accumulated by TS to the world while supporting domestic companies in entering overseas markets. Moving forward, we will continue to do our best to drive the global competitiveness of the domestic drone industry by strengthening international networks."

Through this event, TS aims to solidify South Korea's image as a 'Drone Powerhouse' that sets the standards for drone policy and industry, while continuing to maintain a sustainable cooperation framework with strategic partner nations in the future.
